What if
The one you hate most or detest
Turns out to be part
Of the entity you’re praying to?
What if, as Steinbeck alleged,
Your prayers are wrestling with other prayers
On the way to the throne of the Almighty?
What if the Maker and Owner of all
Comes in tatters
And asks to be ushered to a special seat
Near your altar? What if the Maker
Is more or has done more
Than what you have in your holy books?
What if your language is a futile attempt
At describing this entity’s bigness
And your nothingness? What if
That entity is beyond language
So that everyone cannot be your domestic servant
Or familiar like the palm of your hand?
